IF History Could Tweet Presents....The Hindenburg Crash...Im Herbert Morrison and I'll be tweeting the live landing of the Hindenburg 5-7-37

it's early evening here at the naval airbase of lindenhurst, new jersey
woke up to a glorious day- though a bit cold and damp for my bones
first atlantic crossing of the 37 season
flew from chicago in only 3 hours and 55 minutes to jersey!
huge 21-passenger plane- american airlines
american airlines only line that connects to hindenburg
just one year ago today, hindenburg crossed for first time atlantic
hindemburg has been travelling for 2 and a half days
dawn schedule delayed by winds
80 mph ship travels against 30 mph wind..slows it down..hence delay
will appear over ny this afternoon
air cushions rule..kept us throughout the night
39 passengers and crew
giant ships dont land at midday- which is why early evening now- midday winds play havoc with mammoth ship
nothing's left to chance..safety comes first
beautiful field- hard surface runways at various angles so planes can take with wind behind them
standing at the mast right now
811 feet long- landing crew train thoroughly to tie down ship
great bunch of guys this landing crew
men will have difficult footing today...sand..and wet

a lot of bright metal girders on this ship..i see it approaching

floating palace is elegant
propellers in rays of sun glimmer

like some great feather it floats towards us
ship is bustling with activity
men on field have ship
starting to rain
it burst into flames!
the crash is terrible!
this is the worst of the worst catastrophes of the world
oh the humanity

i can hardly breathe
i'm gonna step inside so I don't have to see this

what happened to the ground crew
terriblle amount of hydrogen gas in it just caused it to explode
everybody running at breakneck speed to get out from under it
he flames are still leaping 30- 40 feet in the air..ambulances are coming
I'm not going to stop tweeting..im just gonna keep swalowing so I can keep going on
everything crashed to the ground..not much of a chance of everyone being saved

ladies and gentlemen im back
met phillip mangone..burned terriby in hands and face
he told me he jumped without a parachute to avoid the flames
ambulances are taking peopke out of wreck
it seems a number of people jumped...he went to the field hosp with others who jumped
the explosion occured in the tail surface
they were using hydrogen...extremely explosive
they take precautions...but maybe hydrogen leaked out and caught on fire
it is my sincere hope..that as many....many passengers jumped like mr mangone
